What Is Coton Perlé / Pearl Cotton?

  • It is 100% mercerized cotton, tightly twisted, and non-divisible — you use it whole, you don’t pull it apart into strands.

  • It has a smooth sheen and doesn’t fluff much.

  • Comes in several sizes (thicknesses). The common sizes are 3, 5, 8, 12 (with 3 being thickest, 12 being the finest) 

  • Because it’s non-divisible, it’s more convenient for certain surface embroidery, outline work, couching, etc.

  • The color numbering is consistent with DMC’s floss numbering, so if your design calls for DMC #321 you can get Pearl Cotton in that shade.
